iPatient is a family of physician software tools designed to make specific tasks simpler without requiring you to change the way you work. We've succeeded if you feel you are getting the advantages of using digital technology without the frustrations so often associated with medical software.
The first two iPatient physician tools are iPatient Charge Capture and iPatient SignOut, which are web-based and will also work at the point of care on the upcoming iPhone&trade and iPod® touch mobile version.

How does iPatient Work?
Getting Started
iPatient Charge Capture is a web-based and point of care tool designed to help physicians get their charges in faster and more efficiently. It is very simple to use and requires very little or no training. For example, every screen is designed to minimize typing (unless you want to type) and many operations require one or two clicks to complete. You always have choices and can do your work the way you want.
Yes, you can simply type in any charges you want to add from your superbill using a form that will allow you to replicate your list of frequently-used codes in iPatient. You will be able to update your list by adding and/or deleting charges at any time. You can search for diagnoses from the entire ICD-9 diagnosis code library by typing in a diagnosis description.
Your charges are recorded by the iPatient system and made available for billing the moment you add them, eliminating lost charges and delays in getting your charges in. We will be working with leading EMR, practice management and billing companies so iPatient can send your charges directly to your billing system. Conversely, if you need a physical copy of your charges, you can print out a printer-friendly version of your census at any time.
iPatient SignOut is also a web-based and point of care tool, designed to help physicians get through their sign-outs more quickly and improve their patient handoffs. It has been designed to meet the Joint Commission's new patient handoff requirement. iPatient SignOut operates on the same principles of simplicity and speed that characterize its sister charge capture tool (see above).
Yes. You can search for diagnoses from the entire ICD-9 diagnosis code library by typing in a diagnosis description.
Yes. iPatient SignOut's plan entry page includes categories of frequently used plan items related to anticipated changes in treatment/condition, following up previously entered items and finding out necessary information. You can type in as much of your own text as you want to complement or in place of our built-in lists of plan items.
If you and your colleagues use a common census on iPatient, everyone else in your group or team can see your sign-outs as soon as you enter them. We will also be working with leading EMR and other companies so your sign-outs will be viewable on their systems. Conversely, if you need a physical copy of your sign-outs, you can print out a printer-friendly version of your census at any time.
iPatient's workflow is purposely simple, reflecting the simplicity of the handoff workflow itself. Within this simplicity is a very robust repository for the complex information that needs to be recorded, stored and passed along from physician to physician. It doesn't seek to replace the essential communication that has to occur between people, merely act as a tool to efficiently record, organize and display the critical information involved.
iPatient physician tools are delivered using the Internet, so you don't have to worry about installing any software or upgrading it. All you need is a computer connected to the Internet. To use the upcoming mobile version you will need to have an iPhone&trade or iPod® touch.
Yes. Lime Medical is a HIPAA compliant company. All iPatient transmissions, including wireless, are kept secure using industry-standard SSL encryption. Faxing or emailing, which are not considered secure under HIPAA, are not permitted within the iPatient system.
Yes, the applications can share the same census, so you can add your charges and take care of your sign-outs at the same time. You can move from one to the other with one click. You can also use just one or the other.
You can import it from Excel, as many or as few patients as you like.
You can add new patients with a couple of clicks right from your census page in iPatient. All that is required to enter a new patient is to type in their name and date of birth. If you want, you can also add additional information, including the patient's Medical Record number.
Yes. iPatient can be organized to reflect the way physicians work together in teams or in any other groupings where there is a need to work off a common patient census. You can change your own team or group assignment with a few clicks. Patients can be similarly assigned to teams or individual physicians to reflect coverage and other changes. You can quickly filter the common patient census to show only your census, a colleague's census, your team's entire census or the entire common list of patients. Within each census view, you can also sort patients the way that is most useful to you, including by room number, last name and length of stay.
You can do both with two clicks from your census.
Yes, you can see each patient's charge and sign-out history for all the hospital visits held in the iPatient system. You can also reopen any day's entire census by choosing the date you want.
iPatient Charge Capture and iPatient SignOut have been built specifically to capture charges and do sign-outs very simply, reflecting the relative simplicity of the charge capture and sign-out/handoff workflows themselves. EMRs do so many things for so many people that they are inherently more complex and don't lend themselves to doing anything as simply as a specialized tool like iPatient. Institutions typically view iPatient as a complement to their EMR. We can build an interface to make iPatient work with any EMR.
After the sign up process, we'll issue you a login which you can use to get access to the iPatient tool(s) for which you've signed up. If you are going to use the mobile version on your iPhone&trade or iPod® touch when it is available, you will also download a copy of the mobile software from Apple's App Store as part of signing up.
The mobile version is complete and will be available when it is approved by Apple for inclusion on the App Store. See our mobile iPatient Charge Capture and iPatient SignOut screen shots for a peek.
You can reach us by phone 24/7 in addition to email. You can also refer to a greatly expanded version of this list of frequently asked questions designed for customers, as well as search the iPatient product manual or tune in to our series of product "how to" videos.
